Pachinko machine wholesaler indicted for tax evasion

The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau last week indicted Mamoru Fujimoto, president of the Ibaraki prefecture-based pachinko machine wholesale firm MYSS on suspicion of evading about JPY41 million (US$370,000) in taxes.

According to those connected to the case, Fujimoto developed a scheme over the past couple years whereby false receipts were used to cover up some portion of the company’s income. In this manner, about JPY172 million (about USD1.5 million) was hidden from authorities. The cash was then kept in a safe deposit box and used for certain expenses.

Fujimoto declined to release any statement to the media about the charges.
