Package tour visitors from Korea, Taiwan surge in Dec 2018

Visitors on package tours increased by 1.6 percent year-on-year in December, driven by a surge in visitors from Taiwan and Korea, according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Total visitors on package tours reached 917,000 in the month. There was a surge in tour visitors from the Republic of Korea, up 39 percent to 61,000, and Taiwan, which was up 23.4 percent to 62,000. Package tour visitors from Mainland China however, fell 1.2 percent to 733,000.

Naturally, the number of guests of hotels and guesthouses also increased in the month - rising 4.8 percent year-on-year to 1.3 million.

Guests coming from Mainland China increased by 8.2 percent, whereas those from the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan decreased.
