Paradise casino sales pick up in April

Korea’s Paradise Co reported a 9.4 percent increase in April sales over the same month last year, though for the first four months of the year, sales are still 2.9 percent lower than in 2015.

Casino sales in April were 56.48 billion won ($48.4 million), compared with 51.62 billion a year earlier. Compared with March of this year, sales gained 28.3 percent, the company said in a filing with the Korea Stock Exchange.

Table games were up 28.8 percent on the month and 10.9 percent from the prior year, while machine sales were up 20.8 percent month-on-month and down 10.3 percent from the prior year.

Table game drop at the company, which operates foreigner-only casinos the Walker-hill, Jeju Grand, Incheon Casino and Busan Casino, was 415.26 billion won in April up 2.4 percent from March, but down 5.1 percent from the prior year.

Revenue at South Korea’s foreigner-only casinos has been hit hard by a drop in tourism numbers following an outbreak of Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome last year and China’s crackdown on marketing to VIP clients on the mainland.
