Paul Baker appointed as president of Grand Lisboa Palace

Casino operator SJM Holdings has announced the appointment of Paul Baker as the new president of Grand Lisboa Palace, which is expected to open in 19H2.

According to reports, Baker took over as president of the IR on October 1, having spent the last four years as the deputy chief operating officer of Resorts World Genting in Malaysia.

Before that, Baker was the executive vice president of resort operations at Wynn Macau and prior to that, was vice president and assistant general manager of multiple properties at Caesars Entertainment Corporation.

In his new role, Baker will be in charge of overseeing the operations at the new IR, as well as cash flow and optimization of the property’s EBITDA.

On Thursday, SJM chief executive Ambrose So Shu Fai said he was expecting the Grand Lisboa Palace to open in the second half of 2019.

SJM was planning to open its new HK$36 billion (US$4.6 billion) property by the end of 2018, but delays including a construction fire last year have pushed back the expected date.
