Pokerstars delays launch of India operations

Online poker giant Pokerstars has announced there will be a delay in its plans to launch an India website by at least one to two quarters, according to remarks from Amaya Group CEO Rafi Ashkenazi, Glaws reports.

Last November, Ashkenazi had indicated that Amaya Group was planning to launch its India operations by the first or second quarter of 2017, adding that the company was in discussion with local partners in India for potential collaboration.

However, it is understood that Pokerstars is still looking for local partners and has not yet signed any agreements with a local partner for its operation. It is however understood that Pokerstars is in advanced stages of discussion with a few leading Indian gaming companies for a possible joint venture.

The Pokerstars boss says the company hopes to launch its India operations the third or fourth quarter at the latest, but added that he does not expect India to contribute significantly to the Group’s revenues this financial year.
