Police nab another loan sharking syndicate

Five members of a casino loanshark syndicate were arrested by the Philippine National Police on Wednesday, facing charges of kidnapping and illegal detention, local media reports.

The men have been accused of kidnapping Korean nationals Yeum Sun Ki and Pan Ho Park and Chinese national Xia Liu – all of whom were detained by the syndicate for failing to pay their debts.

According to the complaint, Korean Embassy Consul-General Kwon Won Jik informed authorities on Monday that Yeum was kidnapped by Chinese lenders at Pan Pacific Hotel and Casino in Manila, and brought to a safe house in Guiguinto, Bulacan.

On rescuing Yeum, the authorities also found Pan, who was kidnapped last Thursday, and Pan, who had been detained for a month.
