Police throw cold water on IPA expansion plans

The Indian Poker Association has suspended poker operations at the YMCA Club in Ahmedabad and has put its plans to open more poker clubs in the city on hold following a number of police raids, Glaws reports.

In mid-April, the IPA announced it was set to launch four new poker rooms in the country by May 1, including three poker rooms in Ahmedabad and one in Delhi.

However, a raid by the Ahmedabad police on the poker rooms in the Navrangpura Hotel appears to have prompted the IPA to temporarily shut down its expansion plans.

“Poker in Ahmedabad is suspended until we get more clarity from courts. It’s the safest thing for us poker players considering that the authorities seem to be confused,” said IPA secretary KN Suresh on his Facebook page.

“While they sleep over our representation & instead of answering the queries before courts the authorities have become aggressive and in a evidently boisterous mood.”

“IPA will be moving the Hon’ble High Court of Gujarat during the vacation over the next week and flip this upside down,” he said.
