Rocket League devs won’t support online gambling

The developers behind popular eSports title, Rocket League have publicly stood against online gambling, local media reports.

Psyonix, which is the developer of the rocket-powered car / soccer game, played on PC and the PlayStation Platform, made the statement after after e-sports gambling outfit Unikrn announced it had added its game to its product line-up.

"Psyonix is not affiliated with Unikrn, nor do we support or endorse online betting for our game," publishing VP Jeremy Dunham said to Gamespot.

Rocket League has been gaining popularity in popularity as an eSport, which follows in the footsteps of staple eSport titles such as Counter-Strike Global Offensive, League of Legends, and Dota 2.

In response to Dunham’s statement, Unikrn CEO Rahul Sood said, "We are not in any way associated with the publishers of Rocket League," he said. "However, we love the game, and like other titles on our sportsbook, we create odds and content on the pro matches and their top-tier tournaments."

Game developers have been known to be averse to associating themselves to any form of gambling, for obvious reasons. In 2016, the Valve Corporation, developers behind CS:GO went under fire for allegedly allowing the proliferation of skin –betting websites – known for attracting gamers to bet with in-game virtual items in exchange for cash or cash equivalent items.
