Russian media watchdog blacklists payment providers

Online payment providers QIWI and Skrill are the latest firms to be blacklisted by Russian communications watchdog Roskomnadzor.

Last Thursday, the media regulator served notices to payment providers stating that they had breached Russian gambling laws by containing links to unauthorized online gambling sites and facilitating payments to the sites.

Both payment providers have been given a 24-hour grace period to remove the links and stop services to “blacklisted” gambling operators.

Last week, Roskomnadzor announced it had intensified its efforts in blocking illegal gaming-related websites in the country.

To date, Roskomnadzor is reported to have blacklisted 6000 websites promoting online gambling services.
