Sands China continues post-typhoon aid

In the aftermath of recent typhoons, Sands China Ltd. continues to contribute toward various disaster relief efforts including technical and professional support, transportation, clean up, SME support and long-term assistance.

Among these efforts, the company is providing ongoing assistance to several Macao non governmental organisations.

Soon after Typhoon Hato, Sands China dispatched a team of technical staff to help repair damaged gates and glass doors at the headquarters of Macau Special Olympics (MSO).

The company has also received more than 10 requests for assistance from the Association of Parents of the People with Intellectual Disabilities of Macau for repair work and technical support for its members whose homes were damaged in the storms.

Lou Sio Ha, chairlady of executive board of the Association of Parents of the People with Intellectual Disabilities of Macau, said: “Many of our members suffered damage to their homes, from broken windows to flooding. Sands China has been a big supporter of our association, and they’ve been instrumental in helping get these repairs done so that our members can get their homes back to a liveable state as soon as possible. We’re very grateful for Sands China’s support of our association and our members.”

Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd., said: “We’re very pleased that we’re able to continue offering assistance to organisations like the Association of Parents of the People with Intellectual Disabilities of Macau during this time of recovery. Our company is in the fortunate position of having resources to expend toward relief efforts, and we’re glad to see help reaching the homes of people in need in the community.”

As part of its recovery efforts, the company has also been helping its team members fix their damaged windows, and with other repairs, like repairing cables, fixing water leaks, and repairing ceilings.

Sands China is also assisting Good Shepherd Sisters by helping restore its landscaping after performing a technical assessment.

Sands China team members have been on standby and have been going out to help the community on an on-call basis. They have been serving over 30 locations throughout the Macau peninsula, Taipa and Coloane, helping to remove uprooted trees, debris and rubbish. These include areas such as the Municipal Garden of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, Luis de Camoes Garden, the Montanha Russa Garden, the walking path of Guia Macau, Escola Caritas de Macau, St. Joseph School No. 5, Choi Kou School, Fu Jian School, and the Fatima Church Dormitory, among others. Assistance with cleaning, sanitizing and trash removal has also been provided for the Macao Deaf Association.

Sands China’s relief efforts are part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship program of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
