Sands professionalism training course continues to grow

Sands China’s Professionalism Training for Gaming Practitioners programme, first launched in July 2016, is on schedule to train 3,000 team members before the end of the year.

The programme, which is co-organised by the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) and Sands China Ltd., is said to have trained over 1,500 team members to date.

“Sands China is very pleased at the number of team members that have already completed this unique training programme, putting us on target to train 3,000 team members in two years,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “And with a goal of training 7,500 team members during the first five years of the programme, we’re also glad to see the programme expanding to non-gaming departments, as we know this training course will bring great benefits to our team members, the company and to Macau, as the city continues its development as a world centre of tourism and leisure.”

Programme participants attend 14 hours of training over the course of two full days, in classes of 35 team members. Coursework covers an overview of the gaming industry, civic education, occupational professionalism and responsible gaming. It also includes an introduction to the current development of the country, the Belt and Road initiative, Macao’s development path, and the impact of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to Macao’s gaming and tourism industry.

Initially launched with eight participating departments, a total of 23 departments are now a part of the programme, including 15 departments that joined in 2018 – including non-gaming areas including concierge, convention and exhibition, entertainment, food and beverage, housekeeping and others.

Sands China offers its team members various courses to enhance their professional skills, including courses on communication skills, effective time management, advanced social etiquette for professional success, and service emotional intelligence, among others.

The Professionalism Training for Gaming Practitioners programme is one of the company’s many investments into its local team members.
