Sarawak authorities nab 80 for illegal gambling

Around 80 individuals have been arrested over the past two weeks as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal gambling in Sarawak, Malaysia, reports the New Straits Times.

Among the arrested are suspected gamblers and gambling den workers, who were nabbed from around 45 locations statewide.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said more than RM11,000 (US$2,580) in cash, 20 computers and laptops, and six live roosters were seized during the operation, which started on May 29.

"A total of 52 people were arrested when our men conducted 42 raids against illegal lottery (4D).

"A raid was also conducted at an illegal cyber gambling den in Permyjaya, Miri, which resulted in the arrest of 18 people.

"Six people were arrested at a cock-fighting pit in Batu Niah, while four others were picked up for playing ‘Holo’ at a public place in Miri," said Dev.
