Second Sochi casino begins operation

The second casino in the Krasnaya Polyana gambling zone has opened its doors, just days after the closure of rivaling zone Azov-City.

The Boomerang casino run by the zone's official operator, a Russian company by the name of Domain, opened its doors on January 4 but it made it into the press only a week later.

It is understood that only the first floor of the gambling facility is operating - which includes a casino and restaurant.

There are plans to open a sports bar and a night club on the second floor.

Boomerang is described by its owners as a democratic casino, aimed at punters aged between 26 and 45. It has 204 slot machines, 20 tables for American roulette and card games.

Director in charge of Krasnaya Polyana’s development Dmitry Afinogenov said at the opening that the intention is “to adequately compete with Las Vegas and Macau casinos, so we are actively engaged in attracting foreign visitors.”

“In 2018, a direct flight between Israel and Sochi was launched, thanks to which more than 40,000 Israelis visited the gambling facilities of Krasnaya Polyana. This year we plan to launch direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Sochi. We hope that our government will meet us halfway, and we will see some kind of visa relief for both Sochi and Russia as a whole,” he added.

The first casino opened in Sochi in January 2017 and in December 2017 a slot-machine hall was also unveiled in the zone. They are, too, operated by Domain.
