Stanley Ho’s nephew goes on trial over alleged sex ring, claims innocence

Alan Ho, 65, has denied being involved in a prostitution racket operating at the SJM Holdings-owned Hotel Lisboa, whilst being on trial at the Court of First Instance on Friday, according to local media.

Ho, along with five others on trial, have been accused by the Macau Public Prosecutor's Office of founding and leading a criminal organization, as well as over 90 charges of sexual exploitation. He has denied the charges against him and has remained silent during the opening of the proceedings.

The senior SJM executive, and five of his co-accused were arrested in Jan. 2015 in one of the largest crackdowns on alleged prostitution since the former Portuguese colony was returned to China in 1999. The suspected prostitution ring made at least MOP400 million ($50 million) from some 2,400 sex workers, according to the Wall Street Journal at the time.

The second session of the trial is scheduled for Friday, January 15.
