State govt turning blind eye on casino industry: Opposition

The main opposition party of Goa has accused the coalition government of turning a blind eye towards the “uncontrolled” casino industry, local media reports.

During a press conference at party headquarters, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson Sidhanath Buyao claimed the industry has been blatantly violating laws and has been given preferential treatment from the state government.

Earlier this week, a video clip of a casino security guard fighting a customer went viral on the internet.

Buyao said while the coalition government was busy cracking down on small street kiosks, they’ve allowed casino operators to take law into their own hands.

"The video shows how the casino industry has not just taken Panaji, but the whole of Goa to ransom. Their employees are brutally assaulting people on the streets and yet no police complaint is registered against casino operators for assault," Buyao told local reporters.

"The irony is that kiosks run by the common man are demolished without mercy, while all the mercy of the state administration and police is reserved for casino operators," he added.
