Structural adjustment needed in gaming industry: Chan

Paulo Martins Chan, Director of the Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), has reiterated the need for structural adjustment of the gaming industry if Macau is to diversify its economy and achieve sustainable development.

In a statement released by the DICJ, Chan suggested that casinos could provide different types of slot machines - which would close the gap between VIP and non-VIP rooms.

Last month, the DICJ met with representatives from GLI and BMM, internationally recognized certifying companies for slot machines. Both companies expressed their full support of the Macau government’s aim to increase the gaming sector’s mass market appeal.

In addition, the gaming regulator also discussed the provision of specialized training with better quality of slot machine testing for local staff in order to improve the competitiveness of casino operators by providing better services to tourists.
