Studio City VIP ops to begin Nov. 5

Melco Crown Entertainment’s Studio City will begin VIP operations on November 5 along with two junket rooms to open on November 8, said Bernstein in a note on Wednesday.

Quoting a local media source, the brokerage says SunCity and Tak Chun Group will be the two junket room operators - with 33 VIP tables in operation in total (including direct business).

The brokerage also says it does not have clarity whether smoking would be allowed in the VIP rooms.

“VIP operations were anticipated to begin in September. However, there has been a two month delay as the company was negotiating with the DICJ with respect to from where the VIP tables would come. At this stage we do not yet know if the 33 tables are being transferred from other MPEL properties (i.e., Altira) or if any of the 250 mass tables at Studio City are being converted to VIP,” said Bernstein.
