Tabcorp protecting its broadcasting rights

Australian wagering giant Tabcorp is aggressively protecting its horse racing broadcast rights in Australia and New Zealand, the Australian Financial Review reports.

The wagering company has been spending big amounts to maintain access to vision in Western Australia, and is currently in talks with racing authorities in South Australia and New Zealand to extend deals.

The extensions is said to be costly, with Tabcorp reportedly paying nearly $26 million over the next six years for WA rights, around 10 times more than what it was previously paying annually.

Tabcorp is also currently negotiating for South Australian broadcasting rights, holding "first" and "last" rights. Racing.com is said to be keen to bid.

In New Zealand, Tabcorp is in negotiations regarding the rights to New Zealand racing - with Racing.com also competing for rights.
