The Star booked out over CNY, says managing director

Sydney casino operator The Star is officially booked out over the busy Chinese New Year period with Chinese patrons, according to local media.

The Star managing director Greg Hawkins said there was a significant demand for its restaurants, hotel rooms and casino facilities, with over 4000 rooms booked over the next fortnight. Hawkins says patrons will be mainly guests from mainland China.

“From a business point of view, within the tourism economy that China market is very critical to us and there's now a far greater understanding here in Australia of ... that Chinese guest experience."

"We've got a wide range of gaming rooms for both direct and junket customers and they are all booked out over the next couple of weeks because of the high demand we are seeing at the top of that gaming space."

Morgan Stanley analysts in January said Increasing Chinese tourism in Australia will be good news for Sydney’s Star casino, as Chinese often use Sydney as the entry point into Australia.
