The Star to benefit from Commonwealth Games

Australian casino operator The Star Entertainment Group says it is looking forward to the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which it expects will generate “phenomenal” activity at its Gold Coast casino and hotel, local media reports.

The Star is one of the main sponsors of the April 4-15 Commonwealth Games.

"The Games look good for us," The Star chief executive Matt Bekier said on Wednesday to News.com.au. "We're one of the main sponsors, so if we weren't busy, we'd have a problem.

Bekier said that the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, located on Gold Coast’s Main Beach, is booked out as the official family hotel for the Games.

“That period is going to be phenomenally busy for us," said The Star chief.

Bekier said The Star would be looking to use the Games to increase awareness of its tourism and gaming facilities.
