Travellers considers delaying opening date for West Side City

Philippines-listed Travellers International Hotel Group Inc. said it may move the opening date of its $1.1 billion West Side City Resorts World in Entertainment City, local media reports.

Travelers president Kingson Sian said the opening date may be moved to 2020 or 2021, instead of its original schedule of 2018, due to the current oversupply in the market.

Sian said last week the company was reviewing plans to make West Side City unique compared to its competition and its Resorts World Manila.

“We’re carefully studying the master plan. We want to tweak it so that we offer something that is quite unique, so we don’t repeat the same offering,” said Sian, quoted by Manila’s Standard.

Earlier last week, Kingson said Travellers will be spending up to P10 billion (US$216.9 million) this year for the construction of Phase 3 of Resorts World Manila.

There are already two casinos operating in Entertainment City - Solaire Resorts and Casino, and City of Dreams Manila, and a third gaming and resort complex, Manila Bay resorts is expected to open before the end of the year.

Travellers, along with Genting Malaysia already operates Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.
