Ukrainian PM backs casinos

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said he is in favor of legalizing casinos in a bid to increase state revenues and fund cultural activities, the Kyiv Post reported.

“This morning I met with MPs, including those with the opposite view towards the government, in order to adopt a law in the parliament on bringing the gambling business out of 'shadow' and legalizing it, and get additional income and fund Ukrainian culture, art and cinema," Yatsenyuk was quoted as saying.

Yatsenyuk said that the majority of funds raised would be used to fund cultural projects.

The gambling business has been prohibited in Ukraine since 2009.
