Universal debuts slot innovations, including multi-currency

Japan’s Universal Entertainment Corp. said it has introduced two major innovations for slot machines, including a multi-currency option, with both being deployed at its Okada Manila property in the Philippines.

In a stock exchange filing, Universal said it had developed a Slot Program Play System that enables operators to provide preferred customer services to VIP players who spend a certain amount of money over a certain time.

It has also developed what it claims to be a global first, in a real time automatic currency exchange service, that allows gaming machines to accept multiple currencies and not just the currency in the particular jurisdiction.

Universal said the system allows players to avoid the time and inconvenience associated with money exchange services and also saves the operator significant personnel costs related to such transactions.

The system is capable of accepting all major currencies, exchanging bills into the Philippine peso at a predetermined rate. It also has a function to help prevent money laundering, such as restrictions on the amount of foreign currency that can be played.

Both systems have been deployed at Okada Manila and the company plans to roll out the product across Asia “as part of a new manufacturing business.”

The Slot Program Play System rewards players with free gameplay and points and is designed to improve services to VIPs. It works by “systemizing” rolling programs that have been administered as preferred customer services at baccarat and other table games.

Universal said it will help operators to better target their marketing efforts in the slot segment.
