V Air launches Taipei to Macau route

Taiwanese low cost carrier V Air has begun operating flights between Taipei and Macau, a route growing in popularity among airlines.

V Air, a low cost carrier unit of Taiwan’s TransAsia Airways, will run the service three times a week to begin with then later increase it to a daily operation in early June, Macau press reported.

The airline’s general manager said the company has been eager to fly between the two countries since it started operations last December and in future hopes to  co-operate with Macau’s gaming operators on certain products and services.

The flights follow a new open sky agreement inked by both countries last year to allow more airlines to fly the route carrying unlimited passengers and freight between Macau and Taiwan.

V Air’s entry into the market will see it compete with carriers Tigerair Taiwan, Macau’s flagship carrier Air Macau Co. Ltd., Eva Airways, and Mandarin Airlines.
