Vietnamese police crack down on football gambling ring

Vietnamese authorities have busted an underground football gambling ring worth over US$300 million ahead of Euro 2016, reported state media on Tuesday.

23 people have been arrested since the crackdown on June 9, said state-run An Ninh Thu Do reported.

"The members of the ring have spent a total of $340 million on online football betting since June 2015," the report said.

Among those arrested was Hanoi-based kingpin, 52-year-old Bui Khac Hien, added the report.

During Euro 2012, almost 1,000 suspected gamblers were taken into custody while police blocked more than 300 illegal websites.
