VIP revenue at Crown Perth falls in 2017-18

Baccarat revenue at Crown Perth fell nearly 24 percent in the 2018 financial year, a reflection of China’s increased crackdown on foreign gambling companies, local media reports.

Baccarat, a game often associated with VIP Chinese gambling, reached only A$163 million in revenue in the year, down by 57 percent compared to a high of A$383 million in 2014-15.

According to a report from The West Australian, the results are a reflection of China’s increased crackdown on foreign gambling companies, which climaxed in 2016 when 19 Crown employees were arrested for the illegal marketing of gambling services in China.

It also comes after $650 million revamp of the property with Crown Towers Perth, offering some of the most expensive rooms in the country.

However Baccarat revenues weren’t the only ones to fall in the year.

The commission also noted subdued demand for other types of games at the property, including electronic gaming machines, blackjack and roulette.
