VIP rooms at Studio City to open as early as Sept

VIP rooms at Studio City may open sometime this month, according to Melco Crown’s chief operating officer Ted Chan Ying Tat.

“We have one to two [junket operator] partners, plus our own in-house VIP play. Hopefully the VIP facilities will be opened this month,” said Chan, who was speaking on the sidelines of a press conference at Studio City on Tuesday.

The operator first announced it was considering adding VIP gambling facilities to its Studio City integrated resort in July, with three VIP rooms to open as early as this quarter.

According to local sources, junket operators Suncity Group and Tak Chun Group are among the gaming promoters that will operate these VIP rooms.

When asked where the VIP tables would come from, Chan said that they “had not decided internally”.

The VIP tables could either be moved from existing operations owned by Melco Crown, or by redesignating some of the mass-market tables to VIP tables.

“We’ve confirmed with the partners, but we still have to discuss tables. The renovation has been pretty much finished. We are ready any time, in the sense that after all this settles, the government will have no problem in approving [the VIP tables],” he said.
