Visitor arrivals increase 25.6 percent in May


Visitor arrivals to Macau increased by 25.6 percent year-on-year during the month of May, driven by a surge in same day visitors.

According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), visitor arrivals totaled 3.4 million in May. Overnight visitors grew by 10.3 percent to 1.6 million while same-day visitors surged by 43.3 percent to 1.8 million.

Visitors from mainland China grew by 30.4 percent during the month, primarily from the Guangdong and Hunan province.

Visitors from Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan also saw growth.

The numbers mean that visitor arrivals are up 21 percent year-on-year in the first five months of 2019.
