Visitor arrivals to Macau up 10.1 % in 2019

Visitor arrivals to Macau in 2019 reached a total of 39.4 million, representing an increase of 10.1 percent year-on-year, according to data from the government.

This was driven mainly by an increase of visitors from Mainland China (10.5 percent), Hong Kong (16.2 percent) and Taiwan (0.2 percent).

That being said, visitors from Korea, its fourth-largest tourist source market, fell by 8.6 percent.

Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by land increased 32.2 percent year-on-year in 2019 - due mainly to the opening of the Hong Kong Macau Zhuhai Bridge.

However, arrivals by sea fell 39.5 percent.

Visitation results of 2019 were dampened slightly by its results in December, which fell 13.6 percent year-on-year.

The fall in tourist numbers was due mainly to a decrease in visitors from Mainland China, which fell 14.5 percent year-on-year - mainly from the Guangdong province.
