Watchdog alleges irregularities in state lottery

A Mizoram-based NGO has urged the chairman of the state assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to hand over an alleged lottery scandal to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), local media reports.

On Thursday, People’s Right to Information and Development Society of Mizoram (PRISM), an anti-corruption watchdog, submitted a letter to the Assembly, saying the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India’s Performance Audit report found several irregularities in the state lottery, which has led to Rs 11,808.8 crore (US$1.7 billion) in losses from 2012 to 2015.

The Performance Audit of Mizoram State Lotteries by the CAG said while the four distributors of paper and online lotteries were to deposit Rs 11,834.2 crore during the period, they deposited only Rs 25.5 crore.
