Wynn Macau notices increase in fraudulent websites

Casino operator Wynn Macau says there has been an increase in fraudulent online gambling and investment websites posing to be affiliated with the Wynn brand.

“These fraudulent websites can appear highly professional and will often feature false statements on their websites in an attempt to pass off as a legitimate business or purport to be in association with, or be accredited by, a legitimate business or governmental authority. Such websites may also wrongfully display logos and trademarks owned by legitimate businesses or governmental authorities, or use deceptively similar logos and imagery, to appear legitimate,” wrote the company in an interim report on Monday.

“We do not offer online gambling or investment accounts… The Group is not responsible for the contents of such websites,” it added.

If not effectively dealt with, Wynn said the activities could potentially harm their reputation and negatively affect business.

“Efforts we take to acquire and protect our intellectual property rights against unauthorized use throughout the world, which may include retaining counsel and commencing litigation in various jurisdictions, may be costly and may not be successful in protecting and preserving the status and value of our intellectual property assets,” it said.
