Wynn Macau partners with Chamber of Commerce to launch SME programme

Wynn Macau has partnered with the Macao Chamber of Commerce in launching a procurement partnership programme to support local small and medium businesses, according to local media.

The casino operator is the third following Sands China and MGM to answer the government’s call for gaming companies to fulfil their social responsibilities.

In 2015, Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac said there would be an assessment of the social responsibilities fulfilled by the casinos as part of the government’s mid-term review of the gaming industry.

In press conference held with the trade chamber on Jan. 29, Wynn Macau announced it will release a list of 36 types of procurement projects for local companies under its ‘Local SME Procurement Partnership Programme’. Wynn Macau said over 89 per cent of what the company spent on procurement was spent in Macau already.

In 2015, Sands China MGM Macau launched similar initiatives with the Macao Chamber of Commerce.

“Wynn Macau has always been co-operating with local enterprises. And, of course, with Wynn Palace there are more chances for co-operation with them,” said Linda Chen, executive director of Wynn Resorts. “We think now is a good time for us to emphasise the support for SMEs more.” Chen added.

Chui Yuk Lam, vice-president of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, says he is now negotiating with the rest of the gaming companies to launch their own buy-local initiative to support SMEs.
