Yokohama announces two-month delay in IR schedule

Yokohama Mayor Fumiko Hayashi has announced a two-month delay in the city’s IR development schedule as a result of various Covid-19 related disruptions.

“Considering the spread of the novel coronavirus, we should concentrate on the things which are most important,” the mayor explained.

As a result of the delay, the city’s implementation plan, which was scheduled to be published in June, is now expected to be issued in August.

The municipal government is concerned that disruptions related to Covid-19 will slow the progress of staff work, and it has also led to a delay in the completion of the public hearing process in six of the eighteen wards of the city. They mayor indicated the possibility that some public hearings might be conducted by video.

Despite the delay, there is no indication that Mayor Hayashi is reconsidering an IR bid, and the municipality must still conform to a national application timeline in early 2021 that has not been revised.
