Yokohama Chamber of Commerce delighted by IR bid

The Yokohama Chamber of Commerce & Industry appears to have been taken by surprise by the news reports on Monday that the city government had decided to move forward with an IR bid, but they expressed their delight.

“If it is true, we are very glad about it and want to express our appreciation,” Chairman Takashi Ueno told the press.

It was announced in March that the Chamber of Commerce would be forming an “IR Promotion Council” by the end of the year to lobby for the decision that unexpectedly came this week. It’s unclear if that council will still be formed, or if it will be repurposed for the new circumstances.

Meanwhile, Yokohama Harbor Transport Association Chairman Yukio Fujiki reiterated his own stance, “My goal of redeveloping the port without a casino has not changed. It hasn’t changed even a bit.”
