Visitor arrivals surge during May Labor Day holiday

Visitor arrivals to Macau during the four day Labor Day holiday surged by 37 percent year-on-year, according to provisional statistics.

“With the 1st May Labor Day holiday extended to span four days (1st – 4th May) in Mainland China, more Mainland residents were enticed to travel during the mentioned period, which, in addition to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge now in operation, led to a considerable year-on-year increase in total visitor arrivals to Macau,” wrote a report from the Macau government news website.

Provisional statistics have revealed that Macau welcomed 636,644 visitors during the period.

Mainland Chinese visitors contributed to the largest part of this growth, up 42.7 percent year-on-year to 306,068. Hong Kong and other source markets also saw increases in visitors in the period.
