The Macau government raked in MOP76.4 billion (US$9.4 billion) in gaming taxes in the first eight months of 2019, representing an increase of 1.5 percent year-on-year.
According to data from the Financial Services Bureau, the figure appears to be tracking well with the initial estimates of MOP98.2 billion in gaming taxes by the end of 2019, with 77.8 percent of this amount already collected by August.
Local government expenditure also dropped in the eight-month period, down 11.1 percent year-on-year.
The increase in tax revenue comes despite gross gaming revenue for the first eight months of the year falling 1.9 percent year-on-year, reaching MOP198.2 billion.
The decline was seen as being due to the ongoing US-China trade war, and transport disruptions from the protests in Hong Kong.
