At least 14 local governments still mulling IR bids

At the current juncture, a total of fourteen Japanese local governments may still be in the first round of the Japan IR race, according to the latest national survey as well as local media reports.

Four local governments have declared that they are definitely in the hunt for an IR license: Yokohama, Osaka, Wakayama, and Nagasaki.

Furthermore, in recently conducted national surveys, a further six local governments have admitted that they are considering the possibility of a bid: Tokyo, Hokkaido, Chiba, Kawasaki, Nagoya, and Hamamatsu.

The latter of these, Hamamatsu city in Shizuoka city, was not previously known to be considering an IR bid.

Four other local governments that apparently did not admit to the media surveys that they are considering a bid, but are known to be doing so are Aichi, Miyagi, Mie, and Kitakyushu.

Fukuoka may or may be added to this list in the near future, as there is now a local IR movement in that city as well.

Finally, it should be noted that some other municipalities, such as Izumisano, Kushiro, and Rusutsu, would probably like to make IR bids, but are precluded from doing so due to a lack of support from their prefectural governments, which are prioritizing other locations (i.e. Yumeshima and Tomakomai).
