With the support of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito Party representatives, the Yokohama City Council approved last Friday the municipal government’s plan to establish a specialized committee to advise the city on the selection of an IR operator.
The committee is expected to consist of up to seven members who are specialists in tourism, local economies, and related fields. They will report their findings to Yokohama Mayor Fumiko Hayashi.
The plan allows the municipal government to keep the discussions of the committee hidden from the public.
Yokohama is currently expected to publish its basic IR policy in March and launch its RFP process in June.
Yokohama is currently the most sought-after location in the Japan IR race with Galaxy, Genting Singapore, Sands, Melco, Sega Sammy, and Wynn all jostling for position.
