August lottery sales up 13.1 pct

China lottery sales recorded 13.1 percent year-on-year growth in August, reaching RMB35.1 billion (US$5.3 billion), according to data from the Ministry of Finance.

During the month, sales of welfare lottery tickets rose 10 percent, while sports lottery sales went up 16.4 percent.

Strong sales were recorded in Hunan, Fujian, Guangdong, Henan and Zhejiang, according to the ministry.

The results brought lottery sales for the first eight months of the year to $273.8 billion, up 6.3 percent year-on-year.
