Bangalore Turf Club back on summer races

The Bangalore Turf Club has finally received a license to conduct summer races after it was held back due to a CID probe, Times of India reports.

The license delay caused the BTC to lose out on four race days last week.

In the letter to the BTC from KS Padmavati, additional chief secretary, finance department, permission has been issued to conduct the Bengaluru summer races and operate betting for off-course races of Delhi, Pune, Ooty, Hyderabad and Kolkata for 18 days from June 10 to August 4.

As BTC lost out on four race days this month, officials have decided to apply for a fresh license in August to extend the schedule by two weeks to accommodate the cancelled races.

“The government has given us permission until August 4. Once it ends, we will apply for fresh licence and extend the summer schedule by two weeks to host the cancelled races. The remaining races will be conducted as per schedule," said a BTC source.

The BTC’s summer schedule was apparently saved by the timely intervention of former club chairman KM Srinivasa Gowda, who met chief minister Siddaramaiah on Monday to resolve the crisis.
