Beijing to streamline Chinese/Macau visa process

Chinese top official Zhang Dejiang has pledged to better facilitate the flow of people between Macau and the mainland by streamlining measures in Macau’s visa process.

Dejiang made the comments during a seminar at the Macau East Asian Games Dome, with local community leaders in attendance.

Zhang he hoped for Macau to take advantage of its “strategic positioning” to promote the city’s economic growth, and noted that the Central Government would do everything in its power to assist.

Macau chief executive, Mr. Chui Sai on in a follow up speech noted that Macau was in the process of implementing its first Five-Year Development Plan.

He added that Macau is keen to further integrate with the mainland and deepen cooperation with it in order to achieve win-win relationships.

Zhang also paid a visit today to the Legislative Assembly headquarters, where he stressed the importance of Macau’s cooperation with administrative authorities.

Speaking to members of the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, Mr Zhang said the Legislative Assembly’s achievements rested on the adherence to the one-country, two system principle.

The NPC Chairman said he hoped for a continued optimization of Macao’s legal system, and for the Legislative Assembly to strengthen cooperation with the administrative authorities in this regard.

Mr Zhang also visited the Court of Final Appeal, where he received a briefing on the work and operation of the courts.
