Casino cage thief detained by PJ


A VIP cage operator who stole nearly HK$5.5 million (US$704,700) worth of chips and cash in 2016 has been apprehended by authorities, according to a report from Macau’s Judiciary Police.

The man, who was on duty in a ZAPE district casino VIP room in 2016, used a key given to him for safekeeping to steal HK$5 million in cash and HK$430,000 worth of chips. He then fled to the mainland.

The man was intercepted by the mainland police of Zhongshan city on October 2, 2017, and transferred to the Judiciary Police on October 6.

The Judiciary Police says it continues to pursue the whereabouts of the illegal proceeds.
