Cali Group closes VIP room at MGM Macau

Macau junket operator Cali Group has reportedly shut down another VIP room located in MGM Macau, local media reports.

According to Macau Business Daily, the president of Forefront of Macau Gaming (FMG) Ieong Meng Teng was informed by a Cali employee last week that the VIP promoter had terminated employment to most of its workers in the VIP room.

However, when asked for comment, an MGM spokesman said that the Cali Group VIP room had ceased operations for some time.

The junket official website still states that it has two VIP rooms in MGM Macau and Galaxy Macau.

In February, Cali Group closed two of its four VIP gaming rooms at the Grand Lisboa and City of Dreams in Macau in order to shift resources to the Philippines.

According to FMG at the time, only the VIP rooms at the Galaxy Macau and MGM Macau had remained.

President of the Association of Gaming and Entertainment Promoters of Macau, Kwok Chi Chung said he believed more VIP closures are on the way.

“The current situation is like the aftershocks following an earthquake. After some time, some VIP rooms may have seen the number of customers that they receive is not enough to support their operations. As such, they may prefer shifting some of their resources and focuses from Macau to other places in order to decrease their operational costs here,” said Kwok.
