Casino financier arrested for illegal detainment

A Chinese casino financier has been arrested for illegally detaining a Korean national who failed to settle his debt, local media reports.

Chinese national Gong Yu-jia, who was operating in the gaming area of Pan Pacific Hotel in Manila, allegedly detained the man for 10 days, and demanded P4 million from his family for his release.

The Korean detainee, Jae Hoon, reportedly managed to escape his captors on Thursday, when the men assigned to guard him got drunk.

Gong was later arrested by members of the Manila Police District, according to Chief Insp. Joselito de Ocampo, chief of MPD General Assignment Investigation Section.

The other ten suspects are still at large.
