China lottery sales up 8.9 pct in May


Mainland China’s lottery sales rose 8.9 percent year-on-year in May, reaching approximately RMB 37.7 billion (US$5.5 billion), according to data from the Ministry of Finance.

Welfare lottery sales was down 0.8 percent in May year-on-year to RMB 18.23 billion, while sports lottery sales jumped 19.8 percent to RMB 19.5 billion.

Sales were up in 22 of the 31 provinces of mainland China, with the Guangdong province continuing to be the largest-grossing market. Total sales in the province however, decreased 4.3 percent in the province.

For the first five months of 2017, total lottery sales increased 6.8 percent to RMB 171.2 billion compared to the prior-year period.
