China outbound travellers to rise 18 percent in 2014, Cotri says


The number of Chinese travellers visiting overseas destinations is likely to rise 18 percent in 2014, from the 98 million recorded in 2013, according to figures from the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute.The institute says mainlanders are visiting an increasing number of countries and their demands and expectations are also changing.Cotri plans to host a 12-hour free webinar on Sept. 24 to discuss trends in Chinese outbound travel and different countries around the world.Chinese travellers are expected to increasingly shape the tourism and luxury goods industries around the world as their spending power increases. Patterns in mainland travel are closely watched by the casino industry. Australian tycoon James Packer has referred to statistics saying 80 percent of Chinese leaving the country for the first time will visit a casino.
