Chinese police arrest eight in online gambling ring

Chinese police have detained eight people for organizing cross-border gambling, which involves over RMB130 million (US$19.2 million), local media reports.

The police were tipped off about the illegal gambling platform after a victim reported losing RMB100,000 to the gambling ring.

The online gambling platform is said to be based in Vietnam but operated by Chinese nationals in Hanoi and Guangxi.

The suspects were caught after police launched a raid during the Lunar New Year when the suspects returned to their homes to visit their families.

Three vehicles, over 20 computers, and 30 cell phones were confiscated on site.

A further investigation is underway.
