CNY visitors to Macau up 9.9 percent

This year’s Chinese New Year holiday period saw a 9.9 percent increase in visitors compared to the year before, according to the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

The seven day period from January 27 to February 2, saw a total of 930,000 visitors, which included a 13.8 percent rise in the number of visitors from Mainland China, and a 5 percent rise in Hong Kong visitors. However, the number of visitors from Taiwan, and international visitors fell 15.9 percent and 3 percent respectively in the period.

The CNY holiday also saw Macau’s hotels and guest houses reach an average occupancy rate of 94.5 percent, a slight year-on-year increase of 0.4 percentage points.

While, the average room rate of hotel establishments dropped 3.1 percent to around MOP1,800 (US$225.25) per night during the period.
