Crown employees emerge from detention

Ten of the 16 Crown employees detained since October last year and sentenced last month for gambling crimes have been released, local media reports.

According to a report from Reuters, four employees emerged from one of the detention facilities in Shanghai, accompanied by family members and security officials.

Six other Crown employees were released from another facility. It is believed that one more employee will be released on Thursday.

"Two Australians were released on 12 July at the conclusion of their sentence," said Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs.

It however, did not provide any further comment on the individuals.

It is understood that Jason O'Connor, Crown's head of international VIP and four others including Alfread Gomez, the company’s senior vice-president for China, are due for release after serving a further month’s detention.
