Crown Resorts to alter design of Barangaroo casino

Crown Resorts has reportedly made changes to the design of its Barangaroo casino project to address concerns raised by the Department of Planning NSW, reports The Australian.

The state planning department was reported to have recommended conditional approval of the Barangaroo project providing the size of the podium, which houses the casino, be reduced and the development moved back from the waterfront, in which Crown had argued the size of the casino was vital to the economics of the hotel and casino development.

However, the gaming group is understood to have agreed to the changes regarding the podium size in order to get started on the development of the delayed project - now over 18 months late, which include breaking the solid stone facade in the southern end of the podium, as well as widening the promenade by 10 meters.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the planning advisory panel also demanded an observation deck be built on the 65th floor to be available to the public as an attraction.

Latest estimates say that Crown is likely to open its Sydney casino in 2021.
